The Nutrition concentration prepares current and aspiring public health professionals to assess scientific evidence for dietary guidelines and effectively communicate general nutritional information to the public. Throughout your program, you’ll learn how to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities through nutrition outreach, policy, and education. In addition to studying core public health knowledge, you’ll focus on nutrition science, behavior change, counseling, and the broad effects of dietary culture.
Our Department of Nutrition, a global leader in research and education, is unique in being jointly situated in a school of public health and a school of medicine. With a curriculum that draws on the expertise of both institutions, students develop a nuanced and well-rounded understanding of nutrition issues. Department of Nutrition faculty members — all of whom are dually appointed for the UNC School of Medicine and the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health — are committed to improving the health of underserved and minority populations around the world.
