Online MPH with No GRE Requirements

UNC Gillings’ online MPH with no GRE offers four concentrations: 

MPH Leadership: This concentration is designed to create leaders within the public health sector. Coursework and work experience focus on leading teams and networking with other leaders across different industries, fields and political parties.

MPH Nutrition: By studying nutrition, you gain the knowledge to improve the health of both individuals and communities. In this concentration, students explore how nutrition may prevent a diverse range of health concerns, and how communication and counseling may be used to influence nutritional choices. 

Applied Epidemiology: Epidemiologists identify public health concerns and guide public health interventions. Throughout this concentration, students study data and patterns of diseases, using epidemiologic tools to analyze situations and create solutions.

MPH/Registered Dietitian: Registered dietitians (RDs) provide nutritional counseling to individuals with the goal of helping patients and clients improve their health. The MPH/RD program integrates the scientific study of diet and nutrition with a public health perspective.

When you consider the time and money involved with studying for and taking the GRE, it’s no wonder that many students are searching for master’s in public health programs with no GRE requirements. 

Depending on your target score, preparing for the GRE may take 4-12 weeks. It’s also not cheap — the test itself costs $205 in the United States, and test preparation guides cost $20-$40. When you pursue a master’s in public health online with no GRE, you do not have to worry about fitting the GRE into your budget or schedule. 

As of 2020, the UNC Gillings School stopped requiring GRE test scores for a number of graduate programs. In recent years, it has been suggested that GRE requirements present an unfair advantage to students from higher socioeconomic statuses. By waiving GRE requirements, MPH@UNC strives to promote equity by improving access to those who may not have the free time or spare income to complete the exam.

A master’s in public health online with no GRE lets you shift your focus to the curriculum and learning. The MPH@UNC program requires all students to complete a 15-credit core curriculum. After completing the core curriculum, students focus on their chosen concentrations and electives. There is also an MPH practicum that allows you to gain real-world work experience.
